10 Blackstock Road, Finsbury Park, London N4 2DW https://riverlanecafe.designextreme.com/ “What time do you close?” “I’m closing up in 5 minutes” “Can I grab an oat latte to take away still?” “Of course.” And so, killing time before a football match, I manage to stumble across River Lane Cafe, nowhere near a river nor on a lane but still, just a 2 minute stroll from Finsbury Park station, it’s offered up life saving service. I also make a note of the vegan Colombian empanadas advertised, for my partner who complains you can only find Argentinian ones in London. “They sell out fast though, gotta get in here before lunch.” Good to know but I reserve judgement until I try my coffee. The locale doesn’t look much like a speciality coffee shop but the La Marzocco machine calms my nerves and I’m whipped up a decent looking latte, art and all. Fortunately, it’s a well balanced chocolatey blend that later research will confirm is Pact coffee, and I’m justified in my decision to stop by just before closing time. God bless London for the many brilliant little finds one can uncover on any given day.
