Nude Espresso - Spitalfields

4 Market St, Spitalfields, London E1 6DT

Nude Espresso is something of an East London establishment by now, with locations predominantly spotted around Spitalfields Market and Brick Lane areas. Its roastery on Hanbury Lane means it has established itself at the heart of the hipster district just East of Liverpool Street station and placement in areas that receive heavy foot traffic from trendy tourists looking for quirky wares and wardrobe fillers has cemented them as a must visit for the caffeine enthused amongst them who want a decent coffee once their shopping is done.
Since 2014, Nude have been there or there about when you mention those at the top of the game for coffee pioneers in London, and have pitched themselves perfectly as their roastery sits directly opposite where the London Coffee Festival is hosted every year. I tend to favour their café at the very entrance of Spitalfields market, that sits in a sun trap, catching rays and revellers as they pass. Here I can sit out on the long wooden benches and sample whatever brew has come across my table come rain or shine, eyeing the distinctive red and white branding.
Often not as sweet as other coffees (although their range is large enough to cover most of the coffee drinking spectrum), on warmer days I like to accompany an oat latte with a tart Square Root lemonade to complement the umami of a full bodied blend with a prickling sweetness that makes a lazy day’s window shopping, ideal for a stop-off. One of those places where you get a rare sense of joy from everyone involved, you’re always greeted with an upbeat salutation and a notion that people are there for the love of the bean and not just ‘the Benjamins’, as the American idiom would go. Although I presently reside too far away to sample their stuff right now, my research suggests they are still open for weekday takeaways and I fully suspect, once out of lockdown, they’ll be amongst the first of my visits.
