What’s the difference between a speciality coffee shop and an ice cream parlour? There’s no punchline to this, I ask because this is what Koala is – somewhere selling premium dairy treats and caffeine hits to passers-by.
 
Not that I’m complaining as I make my way through the quiet residential streets up to Brockwell park. I was out late the previous night so need the pick-me-up so finding something more upmarket than your standard chain is very important to me right now.

They offer up Sanctuary Coffee, beans that help support animal sanctuaries and also taste great with sweet, unctuous tones that coat the tongue in oily goodness as you roll it around your mouth. I grab an oat flat white and resist the temptation to tickle my taste buds with anything else.

It puts a pep in my step as I make my way toward an all-day music festival up the hill in the heat. Thank god it’s started with great coffee!
