 Kaffeine has long been the primo coffee spot in London, taking inspiration from the antipodean coffee culture of New Zealand and Australia and has marked itself out as the benchmark for speciality coffee in the UK, long before the average shot jock even knew what the phrase ‘third wave coffee’ meant. 
Heading to their flagship shop on Great Titchfield Street in Fitzrovia, I had not realised that some time between my last visit to this mocha Mecca, they had opened another location just a stone’s throw away at Eastcastle street. I can only speculate as to why they are so close to one another but having been caught in a queue at the first (such is its notoriety and thus popularity) it comes as quite a relief to find another. 
Typically serving the coffee of multi-award winning roasters Square-Mile, I often opt for something using the Red Brick blend (and this time is no different). This is a cup of coffee that, although always familiar, is ever changing as it is a seasonal brew that sees components of the blend change with the crop cycle and as such, the taste of what’s in your cup. Kaffeine typifies this sort of coffee drinking, knowing exactly when to change over their blend and how to adjust their machines for each season’s perfect extraction. There is a reason it won Europe’s Best Independent Cafe in 2010 and has 3 Gold Awards from Cafe Society. It has always been, and still is, the very best.
