https://hermanoscoffeeroasters.com 7 Blackhorse Ln, London E17 6DS I didn’t realise how much of a hub for the London coffee scene Walthamstow was. Driving around a light industrial estate along Blackhorse Lane with my partner, searching out parking so we can wander up the road for food and coffee, we trundle past both Square Mile and Minor Figures roasters, which is news to me! After a delightful, yet incredibly slow, lunch, we make time for iced coffee as the sunshine is oppressive and we need something to take the edge off the oppressive sunshine as we wait for our viewing slot to open up for a flat we’ve taken a fancy too. Hermanos Colombian Coffee has been popping up all over London in recent years, with the speciality chain selling single origin beans from Colombia to hipsters and home-sick South Americans for quite some time now and, with Walthamstow being the centre of the capital’s coffee universe (apparently), there’s little wonder that they opened up shop here. On the ground floor of Gnome House, the cafe takes up residence with a small cement yard out front and a collection of mismatched tables and chairs inside. There’s a real community feel to it with flyers about upcoming local events and posters of the area with illustrations of key places to visit if you’re a resident. Taking up rich and nutty oat iced-lattes, we daren’t brave the outside as we shelter indoors away from the harsh glare of the sun. Cool and caffeinated beverages in hand, the smooth coffee offers reprieve and joy. It’s reassuring to know that, if we were to get this flat, there’s definitely at least one coffee shop of note nearby, although I suspect there may be many more.
