Vale House, Cowbridge, Hertford SG14 1PN On the very edge of town, sequestered in a corner of its own, is the Nourish cafe. A ‘healthy’ cafe that specialises in homemade food free from all of the things we’re told we should avoid when eating. Usually, I’d give this sort of establishment a wide berth and the only reason I know it exists is because it is a few doors down from the chip shop I go to far too regularly. However, being a vegan, I all too often get lumped in with the health focused crowd because of my aversion to meat but I do it because I fundamentally disagree with the way we treat animals and the environment, not because I care about anything other than my lunch tasting good. Anyway, I bite the proverbial, meat-free, bullet and head over for tofu wraps with a satay-like sauce and topped with peanuts and a coffee. The food is uplifting; light, tasty and delightful in its handmade presentation and health focused content. But, as always, it’s the coffee I’m interested in! Apparently roasted just around the corner from the cafe, it’s a mild and sweet brew that comes with ever so slightly over-frothed oat milk in my latte. It was however, a cup of coffee I wouldn’t mind revisiting and now I know I can pick up a variety of vegan lunches.
